Updates and musings from my trip to Africa ...and formerly a documentation/narrative of my trip to India and South East Asia (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand) with three friends and an open mind.

Don't stop till you get enough

I hope you've had almost as much fun reading these entries as I've had writing them. This blog has been the perfect outlet for my thoughts and feelings, a method of reaching those I care about and sharing with them, as well as documenting events for personal recollection. When I thought about laying The Rickshaw Diaries to rest it made me sad. I felt like I was committing everything to do with this trip to memory and moving on, packing it away to be stumbled onto in a dusty attic years in the future, if you will. I realized I didn't want that. In fact it would go against the spirit of the trip, I wanted to continuously learn from and reflect on the entire experience. And so I propose a bold plan: keep The Rickshaw Diaries alive!!

Personally I've regarded this site as a look into myself, not a tool in the clichéd quest of "finding myself" but instead just a way of trying to get to know myself better. It's an interesting endeavour. I would like to extend the opportunity to partake in this venture to anyone willing to jump in. We can discuss anything: from foreign lands to local news, savoury foods of the world to sports stats to global warming to the latest hits recorded by the one and only Gordon Mile (if you haven't heard of this band, for the love of god send me an email and I'll fix you up).

BUT for the time being, sitting here at my desk staring at lengthy documents and a mind numbing computer screen all day has given me a strong yearning for the road. How I ache for the ache in my legs caused by lugging an overloaded backpack, trudging through a mucky alley fending off relentless touts and maniacal traffic...so now its my turn to do what the readers of this blog (all three of them) have done: live vicariously through another hapless North American stumbling to find their way through the bustle and bamboozlement of a foreign land!

starting in only a couple of weeks, my good friend (from Chem Eng at Queen's) Shaina Dinsdale will be embarking on a semi-around-the-world-trip with another good friend, Jenn Hedayat...And they're bringing us along for the ride!!
That's right, Shaina will be taking over The Rickshaw Diaries (if only temporarily). I was inspired to ask her when she told me the two adventurous ladies were off to follow the South East Asia trail, starting in India and Burma. I for one am very excited to hear their thoughts and impressions of the places I just visited as well as hear about their exploits in new forays. This should also be a great way to expand the reach of this blog. It's really a win-win situation.

So thats the plan: revamp, invite new people, and continue the sharing!...its up to you girls, I know you'll do me proud!

To anyone reading, thanks for the support (all the comments and messages are much appreciated so keep 'em coming!) and I'd love to talk about anything/everything so gimme a shout at amar.kher@gmail.com

also keep and eye out for HOMECOMING 2006 PICTURES!! as I am off to kingston for the most auspicious weekend of debauchery on the university calendar
